Dr. R.P. Parashar, Chief Medical Officer (Ayurveda) at Delhi Municipal Corporation suggests consuming Chiraita (Swertia chirayita) during Bhadon to prevent dengue by purging Pitta dosha. Ayurvedic remedies like Sanjeevani Vati and Harsingar decoction can manage fever, prevent complications, and boost immunity. These natural treatments are safe and effective against infections., says the ayurveda expert
According to Ayurveda, the use of Chiraita (Swertia chirayita) during the month of Bhadon (mid-August to mid-September) can be a preventative measure against diseases like dengue. Chiraita is known for its antiviral properties and is believed to prevent the virus responsible for dengue from causing an infection in the body even if it enters the bloodstream.
Role of Chiraita in Ayurveda:
- Pitta Dosha Regulation: During the rainy season, Pitta dosha tends to accumulate in the body. At the end of the rainy season, diseases related to Pitta aggravation often appear. Chiraita acts as a purgative, effectively purging excess Pitta from the body and preventing Pitta-related disorders.
- Other Health Benefits: Chiraita also helps in maintaining blood sugar levels, relieving constipation, and detoxifying the liver. Its chemical constituents are effective against problems like jaundice, cough, cold, and fever. Furthermore, it enhances immunity.
Rising Cases of Dengue and Double Infections: Due to continuous rains, the prevalence of dengue and other bacterial and viral infections is increasing. Some patients are presenting with double infections, where another viral or bacterial infection coexists with dengue. Ayurvedic medicines can be quite effective in treating such cases.
Ayurvedic Medicines for Fever and Dengue:
- Sanjeevani Vati, Arogyavardhini Vati, Mahasudarshan Churna, Kalmegh, Bhuinaamla, Papaya leaf juice, Giloy decoction, and Harsingar leaf decoction are recommended from the first day of fever to prevent dengue or any other infection from becoming severe. These medicines help maintain platelet counts in dengue patients and prevent internal bleeding.
- Harsingar Leaf Decoction: To make this decoction, boil 20 to 25 Harsingar leaves in half a liter of water and reduce it to half. Give the patient 20 ml (four teaspoons) every two hours. Adding black pepper, basil, Giloy, and ginger can enhance the effectiveness of the decoction.
- Other Ayurvedic Medicines: Jai Mangal Ras, Hinguleshwar Ras, Sunthi Churna, Amritarishta, Kutki, Navayas Loha, Guduchi Satva, and Sudarshan Churna are also effective in treating dengue and other microbial infections. They help increase platelet counts within one to two days of starting treatment and reduce the risk of internal bleeding.
These Ayurvedic treatments not only target infections but also boost immunity without causing any harm to the body, making them a comprehensive approach to managing fevers and infections
