New Delhi: The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs is set to host the first Pey Jal Survekshan Awards on March 5, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan here. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, will preside over the event, honoring cities and states for their exemplary performance in the water sector.
With 130 awards across various categories, including the prestigious Pey Jal Gold, Silver, and Bronze City Awards, the ceremony recognizes outstanding achievements in water management. Evaluation under AMRUT 2.0 in 485 cities assessed parameters such as access, coverage, water quality, and sustainability, culminating in a star rating scale from 5 stars to No star.
The event also marks the launch of the AMRUT Mitra initiative. The primary aim of the AMRUT Mitra initiative is to empower women by fostering a sense of ownership, thereby promoting inclusivity and diversity in sectors traditionally dominated by men. By ensuring access to safe drinking water for households and addressing gender inequality, AMRUT Mitra strives to uplift the socio-economic status of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). These efforts align closely with the objectives of AMRUT 2.0, with anticipated outcomes including increased awareness, positive community impact, and serving as a model for future initiatives.
